CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE CALLS ON COMMUNITY TO HELP DEVASTATED HAITIANS THAT NEED HELP NOW

“Hurricane Matthew toll in Haiti rises to 1,000, dead buried in mass graves” – Rueters

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees, released the following statement regarding the impact of Hurricane Matthew and the need for assistance to the Haitian people:

“Six years after a devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake killed more than 200,000 people, Haiti was been hit by another deadly natural disaster after landfall of Hurricane Matthew.  It was the first major hurricane (Category 3, 4, or 5) to hit Haiti in 50 years. Many parts of Haiti devastated by Hurricane Matthew are still without aid, people have not eaten, and their crops are gone. This is a devastating humanitarian crisis and as American’s we must step up to the plate once again to aid the good people of Haiti,” stated Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

Congresswoman Jackson Lee further stated that, “I am glad to be partnering today with New Missions, the Houston Food Bank, Interfaith Ministries, The “Luke” (Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church), Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, The Community of Faith Church, Fountain of Praise Church, People Outreach Ministries and the Houston Haitian Community to help collect and donate non-perishable foods, clothing, pillows, blankets, sheets, and any other items to help the Haitian people as they recover from this unbelievable second major disaster within 7 years. I am asking the people of Houston who have experienced the devastation and trauma of hurricanes to pour out blessings to the people of Haiti by giving donations over the next seven days until October 20.”
